Feedback is good, but only if its along the lines of "Wow Ellie, You're AMAZING!"

top 10 best most favourite songs of all time

Inspired by Dan (http://danielgsbitanim.blogspot.com), I have decided to create my own Top 10 Ellie's Best And Most Favourite Songs Of All Time.

OK!

Number 10 (but only number 10 because its a recent discovery): All I Want Is You- Barry Louis Polisar
This beautifully crafted acoustic song has clever, rhyming lyrics that are sweet and enjoyable. I discovered this song when watching Juno, its the animated opening credits song. The verse that caught my attention firstly was "If were a wink, well I'd be a nod, if you were a seed, I'd be the pod. If You were the floor I'd wanna be the rug and if you were a kiss I know I'd be a hug."

Number 9: Close To Me- The Cure

This is my all time favourite Cure song, which is crazy because there are some wicked good The Cure songs out there. But I love how Robert Smith is all like "bah bah bahhh" along with the trumpets. The song's so full of anitcipation. I love it.

Number 8: Deceptecon- Le Tigre
This song has hilarious and very fond memories. For further reference, look up the film clip on you tube. They're angry, They're crazy, They're the only fem rock girl band I know with a male member. Othersongs worth checking out of Le Tigre's are TKO and Get Off The Internet.

Number 7: The Shins- Red Rabbits

The bass in this song has been so distorted and played with that it sounds like an underwater dripping piano. The Shins are amazing.

Number 6: The Predatory Wasp Of The Palisades Is Out To Get Us!- Sufjan Stevens

The escalation of voices and instruments in this song gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it. I adore all of Sufjan's work, but this is like the shiniest of all the shiny jems in his music artillary.

Number 5 (are you still interested, or have you given up?): Autumn Sweater- Yo La Tengo

This chilled tune is nostalgic and calming, and kinda hopeful all at once.

"We could slip away/ wouldn't that be better? Me with nothing to say/ You in your Autumn Sweater."

Number 4: Green Gloves- The National

The Lyrical GENIUS of The National strike again with their most recent album Boxer. Green Gloves is a lovely melody, paired with amazing lyrics. Pretty much all you're looking for in a song.

Number 3: Missed The Boat- Modest Mouse

This song is all about missing out on things, and just having to think, "Oh well, my turn will come." Its hopefull and heart warming. "Oh, And we carried it all so well, as if we got a new promotion..."

Number 2: You Were The Last High- The Dandy Warhols

What's a top 10 list without your favourite Dandy's song? I love this particular Dandy Warhols song because its so laid back and carefree. Where as some of their stuff (Godless, Boys Better, Be In, that kind of thing) is much more serious, the lyrics to this are so playful.

Number 1: Such Great Heights- The Postal Service

This is my all time nuber one best favourite song of all time for a reason. One real reason really. Layers. This song is so amazing with its layer work that every time I listen to it I find something new within the song-sewn folds of music. Each element comes in at different times, and they all come together to build up amazing, fanastical and beautiful patterns.

Happy Easter Everyone!

So, happy easter and all that, but what I'm really here to talk about is not eggs, chocolate, bunnies, jesus or those little chickens made out of bits of yellow pipe cleaners that you get at the newsagents.

No, I'm here to talk about my addiction to ABC kids. Namely two shows: Pocoyo and Oswald.

Pocoyo is so cute and narrated by Stephen Fry, which makes it actually really hilarious, and I personally, don't feel demened like I do when watching shows like Poko or Thomas the Tank Engine (new season of Thomas is out byw, can anyone tell me if its still narrated by Ringo? Can't bring myself to watch it.). Pocoyo is done on 3D software. Its rapid, excitable movement is perfect for kids, I think, and contrasts with something like Franny's Feet in which it takes Franny about 1/2 the show to get to Grandpa's Fix It Box.
Here's a Pocoyo sample:

Oswald is a georgeous American cartoon, I think its done in flash, but I'm none too sure. Oswald is an octopus and with his dog, Weenie the hotdog, his friends Daisy the Flower and Henry the Penguin, he gets up to lots of adventures. I love the fluidity of movement, the simple storylines, and the uniqueness of the character designs.

window paints

I don't know if anyone else got to play with window paint when they were younger, but I found a set at work today. On sale. Fuck yeah.

So I bought it, and I'm having a play with it.

The basic idea is you get a sheet of acetate, and you put it over a design you want. You then go over it in black, and then fill in the colour. After about 24 hours the paint goes all clear and you peel it off the acetate and you put it on your window/mirror/tile of your choosing.

This is my window painting about 10 minutes after completion:
My webcam screwed up the colours. The blue bits should be green, the light purple should be blue and the green bits should be yellow. The purple is more blue, and the orange/red/pink in the middle is more pink.
Anyway
I'll update you with the finished product soon.
Love, Ellie!

Seasonal Knits

As some of you may know, I love the needles. I work the sticks. I twist the thread.

Alright I can't actually make it sound as cool as I thought: I knit. I've knitted scarves, hats, and fingerless mittens, and hope to go onto this year, tea cosies, cardigans and socks.
So, I thought I might share some pictures with you! Thats right, you!

I've just finnished this pair of looovely gloves for winter. This is my latest pattern triumph, and I'm quite quite proud of them.

This "Twizzle Hat" (??? Its American. They're crazy) was from last year before I got sick. I look like a Gumnut Baby.

Scarves were the year before last, and the year beofre that. So many people wanted them. If YOU'RE interested, aproach me with a ball of wool of your choosing and a smile. I'm more than happy to knit anyone one. If you want an extra long/fat one, 2 ball of wool are needed though.

For those of you who don't know him, this is Lupe Fiasco. He is way cooler than Kanye: he skates, wears glasses and hoodies. Look up "Kick Push" on YouTube for further reference. Where as Kanye is cocky and full of himself, Lupe comes across so much, well… cooler. His music is awesome, and he’s quite good looking. Everything I need in a singer.
On the same topic of black, awesome singers, N.E.R.D has released another album. And I admit, I am bandist. Because I did hate their first release off the album, until I got told it was N.E.R.D. Anyway, their new album is called N3RD. Which I really do approve of.
Ok, that’s it for the ramble.

Beading

I've recently started work at Riot Arts & Crafts at Indro, y'know, its downstairs, next to medicare? Well anyway, they have a bead sale on at the moment- 49c a packet. Now THAT'S value.
So, as a direct consequence, I've been beading a helluva lot lately. I'm pretty happy about the things I've made so far, but I really want to buy crimps and clasps (not on sale) so I can make things with my tigertail.
I'll post some pictures later when I feel that my repertoire is substantial.
