StumbleUpon

Ok, I don't know about you, but I love procrastination tools. One of these marvolus things was recently discovered by a fiend of mine, and sent to me in a lovely little email package.
It is StumbleUpon.
I don't know how many other people use StumbleUpon, but I feel that this site is the Ultimate Procrastination Tool.
You see, when you sign up, you download a toolbar. And this tool bar is ever present on you internet browser window. All you have to do is click a simple button, and you get completely thrown into completely random sites, which you can then rate.
Anyway, that's only half the story.
If you'll click http://www.lowmorale.co.uk/creep/flash/lm_creep_(FLASH).swf , you'll see a Flash animation that I found while using StumbleUpon. I really like this, mainly because of how the animator represents the passing of time and space. Its very arty and bends the rules of our conventional space-time relationship. And I like that.
So knock yourselves out.

Blankets

In Terry's Thursday morning class, I just finished reading Blankets by Craig Thompson. This Illustrated Novel is the best set of comics I've ever read. The Illustration completely melted my heart- Terry was saying Craig mainly used brush and ink- and it completely pays off. The pictures have the fluidity that can only be achieved with a brush.
The storyline is beautiful, and slightly haunting- the illustration does well to complement this. It feels like Thompson has almost exposed himself with the close and personal stories he reveals, and added with the pictures, I feel like Craig and I are now the closest of friends. The plot cuts between Thompson and his younger brother when they were kids, and Thompson as a teenager, the most vulnerable years of his life. It adds another dimension to the comic just to know that these things actually happened in the writer/artist's life. I feel privileged to have shared in these stories with him.
I recommend highly (If you are a sucker for a bit of teenage- real life romance in your comics) that you read this beautiful novel.

Juno

So, just before, I was thinking about the presence of mobile phones in modern movies. And I realised, that in Fox Searchlight's new MASTERPIECE Juno, not one mobile phone features what-so-ever. And that fact has hightened my respect for the people involved in that movie twofold.
I loved the movie as soon as the poening credits were all animated, and alot of the backgrounds look like texta has been used! I was very impressed.
I know its not such a great storyline, its not really unique, but the characters are, and that waht makes a film worth watching, in my opinion.
If you haven't seen it, go, even if its just for the opening credits. And the music (if you like indie folk music, and/or Kimya Dawson).

Google Reader

Ok, so I'm really getting the hang of this Google Reader thing, and I'm liking it much more than any blog site (/thing... whatever the heck Google Reader actually is) I've ever been a member of.
I like the combination of Blogger and Google Reader, mainly because, in the past, when I've tried to get inot Blogger, its been pretty difficult due to the fact that you can't actually "friend" anyone, like on MySpace/LiveJournal.
Google Reader, however, makes this problem completely go away, which is always a fabo thing for problems to do.

I like Blogger alot too, just because so many more (and by "more" I really mean "professional" or "better") people use Blogger than they do LiveJournal- you just need to know how/where to find them.

So the point of this post, really, is to kudos Ian on intro-ing me to Blogger, the Propper Way.
